Bulgarian ski resort Pamporovo is a modern resort in the heart of the Rhodopi mountain, the mountain of the mythical singer Orpheus. It is the most southern skiing resort in Europe. Pamporovo is situated on 1650 m above the sea level at the foot of peak Snejanka (1926 m). The resort is 240 km far from Sofia and 85 km from Plovdiv. Traveling to Pamporovo is easy in the winter using the charter fligts to the city of Plovdiv, which is 80km away. Cheap charter flights are arranged in the ski season by many British and international travel agents.
Pamporovo is the sunniest Bulgarian mountain resort with wonderful snow throughout the whole season.Pamporovo has an exclusive climate featuring a soft winter with about 120 sunny days during the skiing period. The significant influence of The Aegean Sea appears here and the skiing season starts from mid - December to mid - April. The average air temperature is - 3 C. The gentle profile of the mountain with its rounded slopes and summits makes Pamporovo particularly suitable for beginners. But there are also difficult ski runs like the Giant Slalom run which is an excellent exercise for every skiing expert.
All ski runs are safe guarded and maintained in a very good condition. More than 100 highly qualified ski instructors fluent in different languages are here to teach both beginners and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. The ski runs in Pamporovo come in all hardship levels. They are located between 1926 and 1450 m above the sea level on the northern, eastern and western slopes of The Snejanka peak.The most difficult ski piste is "The Wall", see it on the right picture here.All major ski runs start from the peak of the mountain, where the TV tower is located.Great off-piste skiing and snowboarding is available in this resort, however we recommend using a local guide when going off-piste.
A shopping centre is available in the area of Perelik and Murgavets hotels where is situated Mountain Lodge. Every restaurant,bar,pub or disco has its unique style and atmosphere-folklore, karaoke, show programs are offered everywhere.
Walking tours with mountain guides in the beautiful surroundings of the resort. Those interested in the traditions and customs of the local people can choose from the wide variety of tours, events, traditional restaurants and tasking Rhodopi area and Bulgarian national cuisine and wines. The tourists can spend wonderful time hunting and fishing in the resort’s surrounding area, participating in mountain bike trips with guides, or going to an exciting excursion in Bulgaria. The road back to Pamporovo goes through the town of Chepelare – an important historical, architecture and cultural centre. It is famous for its speleology and Rhodopi karst museum, the only one on the Balkan peninsula. The town has a ski production factory and ski museum.
In the region there are lots of resort villages - these are Momchilovtzi, Stoikite, Gela, Progled and the architectural reservation Shiroka Laka. The tourists can spend their summer holidays there, too, as the mountain is very beautiful in the summer. Tourist routes,natural phenomena, caves, historical monuments, and architectural sights - they all attract tourists. Recently the ecological and country tourism starts developing. The local population or the Rhodopeans are modest, hard-working, hospitable and cheerful people. The folklore of the Rhodope Mountain, the singers and the musicians are famous worldwide. No heart can stay untouched once hearing an original Rhodopean song. With its marvelous countryside, authentic atmosphere, hospitable people and preserved Bulgarian spirit, the Rhodope Mountain is one of the loveliest sites in Europe.
